Andy Schwiebert, Lead Pastor
Andy grew up in Phoenix, Arizona but has lived in California since college. He grew up in a church but stopped attending in high school and became more interested in activism and political organizing. Andy earned his BA in Anthropology and Latin American Studies at UC Berkeley and the University of Chile in Santiago. Afterwards, Andy lived in conflict areas of Mexico for two years and Colombia for one year while working for a faith-based human rights organization called Witness for Peace. While in Mexico, he explored Buddhist and Christian contemplative practices and was inspired by the people he met who shared both deep faith and a commitment to personal and social transformation. Following this rediscovery of his faith and spirituality, he felt a call to the church where he prays his life might be put to work to touch others’ for the transformation of the world.
Upon return to the U.S., Andy studied at the Pacific School of Religion (PSR), where he completed his Master of Divinity degree. While in seminary, Andy met Allison Mark, and they were soon married. She is also in ministry, serving as Associate Pastor at the First United Methodist Church of Pasadena and as Young Clergy Initiative coordinator at the Claremont School of Theology. Before coming to (a)Spire and FCC, Andy worked as Director of the Interfaith Council on Economic Justice in San Jose and as Director of Outreach and Recruitment at the Claremont School of Theology.
The Leadership Team, a core group that’s been leading our ministry, is currently made up of the following members: Claire Richardson, Randy VanDeventer, and Timothy Murphy.
